Chronology of cameras Sony
The Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) is a range of cameras designed by Sony between 1981 (initial prototypes) and 2004 (end of commercialization).
The uniqueness of the series lies in its use of innovative storage media.
The prototype dates back to 1981. It is a video camera capable of capturing still images (up to 10 per second). These images are stored on 2-inch floppy disks called Mavipak Video Floppy (VF). Subsequently, several models with similar features (featuring more advanced Hi VF floppy disks) were marketed primarily for the medical and industrial sectors.

These cameras were heavy, weighing up to 3 kilograms.
In 1997, Sony introduced the Digital Mavica MVC-FD5 with a fixed focal length and the Digital Mavica MVC-FD7 with a x10 zoom. Images were stored on 3.5-inch floppy disks, a standard in computing. This medium was cost-effective but slow, and its capacity was limited as image sizes increased. Various models followed, incorporating video capabilities and higher-definition images. To address the issues of size and speed, Sony introduced the Memory Stick as a supplement or replacement for floppy disks. The earlier Memory Sticks used the floppy disk interface and were therefore slow, while the later ones had a direct interface.
In 2000, Sony replaced floppy disks and Memory Sticks with 8 cm mini-CDs. The initial cameras used CD-Rs (writable once). Later, CD-RWs (rewritable) were used as replacements. There were five models, starting with the MVC-CD1000 in 2000 and concluding with the MVC-CD350 and MVC-CD500 in 2003.
In 2004, the standardization of memory cards led Sony to design more conventional types of cameras.
